Under the floodlights at Molineux, Wolves fielded a heavily rotated squad with sights firmly set on the game against Manchester United. Connor Coady and Joao Moutinho, the two players who kept their place in the side, helped Wolves to follow up their 4-0 away win with a 4-0 home win to the delight of the capacity crowd.
The first half had the feeling of a game already won with Wolves simply going through the motions to ensure safe passage to the next round. Wolves focused their play down the wings with Adama Traore and Ruben Vinagre featuring heavily. However, neither player was able to create a goal-scoring opportunity.
Wolves came out the second half with a point to prove. They played much quicker through the midfield with Morgan Gibbs-White driving the ball forward and pushing the Pyunik defence back towards their own goal. The goals quickly came with Pedro Neto getting a debut goal after some creative play down the wing. Wolves quickly followed up with two more goals, one from Morgan Gibbs-White (his first senior goal for the club) and one from Ruben Vinagre which came in very similar circumstances to the first.
In the 87th minute of the match, Raul Jimenez chipped the ball into the box for Diogo Jota to unleash a lethal overhead kick to send the Molineux crowd wild. The goal showed the clear gulf in class between Wolves and their Armenian opponents and sets up an enticing tie against Torino.
Now Wolves must turn their attention back to the Premier League where they will face a much sterner test in the form of Manchester United.
